DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce that this year\, on November 2nd
 \, the Alexandria Lions Club Branch will be hosting our 2nd annual Strid
 es for Diabetes Awareness 5k &amp\; Family Fun Run. The event will be he
 ld at England Airpark from 8:00 am – 10:00 am. There will be informati
 onal tables\, stretching/warm-up\, 1 mile fun run/walk\, 5k and fun for 
 the whole family.\n\nLions Clubs International is committed to helping c
 ommunities become aware of diabetes and its serious complications. The i
 nternational health community expects that diabetes will affect 380 mill
 ion by 2025. Through Strides events\, Lions increase diabetes awareness 
 and join the effort to prevent\, control and eventually overcome the ris
 ks through Diabetes.\n\nProceeds from the event will be sent for diabete
 s research as well as to the Louisiana Lions Camp in Anacoco\, specifica
 lly to help with medicine and supplies for the week dedicated to kids wi
 th Type 1 diabetes. This camp provides an opportunity for youth ages 6 t
 o 14\, who live with Type 1 diabetes\, to learn about their disease and 
 get to know others who face the same challenges. The overall goal of the
  camp is to provide a safe\, highly supervised\, recreational experience
  for children with diabetes. Proceeds will also be sent to Breakthrough 
 T1D (Formerly JDRF) and American Diabetes Association.
